Many of you hvae asked "Why have you moved so much?" Heres the tea

So.... Many of you have asked (with good reason) "why do you move so much?!"
believe me, moving hundreds of boxes of inventory is not something I enjoy.  Wild Woods has moved 3 times since January 2023.  I am here to give you the tea on why.

Move #1
in the beginning i was running wild woods out of my two bedroom apartment. when wild woods started to grow i knew i needed to find something bigger. The first building we moved into was just outside of buena vista, colorado. The building was recently constructed. Unfortunately the owners of that building tried to do everything as cheap as possible, and brought in their own "inspector" to pass everything before we moved in December.  Within the first 3 months of living there, the heater failed 3 times, and the pipes stayed frozen because there was no heat to warm the place. The heater wasnt installed properly, nor was the building insulated up to code (I later found out).

None of those issues would have been so bad if they would have been willing to fix them in a timely manner, but it took them weeks to agree to fix the heater each time it failed. I couldn't hire anyone to help me because it was too cold to be in there. it would have easily been deemed as unsafe working conditions. so every day when I would fulfill your orders, I would have to bundle up like I was about to climb a 14er in winter. base layers, mid layers, puffy jacket, gloves, thick socks, boots, etc. I would have to take breaks because my hands were too cold to be out there. I knew the broker of that building, & finally decided to  tell him about all of the issues I was having. He told me it was absolutely unsafe for anyone to be spending any time at all in that building until the owners made drastic changes. Luckily, I was able to terminate my 12 month lease after 3.5 months of being there, which meant we had to move...

Move #2
I couldn't find another building that was available and in my price range anywhere near the building I was moving from & was running out of time. i had initially tried to partner with a fulfillment center to have them manage everything. Their monthly storage quote they gave me for wild woods inventory ended up being off by about $4,000. This, along with the hidden monthly fees nearly forced me to close down the business. 🫠 At this point i needed to save as much as i could, so i was looking to take the cheapest route possible.

I have a place in Washington state with a yurt & small cabin on the property. After the failed experience with the fulfillment center I decided to just move everything into the cabin until I found something In my price range & large enough for us to grow. I kept everything there for as long as I could, but the last shipment of inventory just wouldn't fit in the cabin. The last few months prior to the third move, I was storing boxes of inventory in the yurt due to the lack of space in the cabin.

*pictured below is the cabin when I was about halfway through carrying in boxes.. pretty tiny

move 3: (third time's a charm, right?)
This building was recently remodeled, has fully functioning heat & AC, shelving for days, packing tables for fulfillment, the works. We can actually move around here & theres room for more inventory when it arrives.

I am dedicated to Wild Woods. Even though the obstacles I have faced have seemed impossible at times, I always did my best to find a solution to keep things moving forward. I am beyond grateful to have a space that fulfills all of the basic needs (heat, AC, running water) & some awesome extras (heavy duty shelving, packing tables, room to breathe 😅, etc.) I feel good about this spot. We have spent the last two days unboxing everything and organizing the inventory. it is starting to feel like "home"
